A good lightweight. Marquess of Queensberry. (Statesmen series).
Content Description
"Statesmen," No. 261. November 10, 1877. The Scottish nobleman, John Sholto Douglas, the 9th Marquess of Queensberry (often spelled archaically as the Marquis of Queensbury), born 1844, is best remembered for lending his name to the "Marquess of Queensberry rules," 12 rules that formed the basis of modern boxing. Having been educated at the Royal Naval College, he served the Navy for a time. He would eventually serve in the House of Lords. His love of horses would lead him to owning several successful racehorses.
