National Geographic Society - Palomar Observatory Sky Survey [NGS-POSS]
Set of 1872 photographic prints from the original Palomar sky survey, conducted between 1949 and 1958 and funded by the National Geographic Society. These prints were the road atlas of astronomy for several decades. The original glass plates are stored at Palomar Observatory. They were digitized in the 1990s. The set consists of 14" by 17" photographic reproductions of red-sensitive and blue-sensitive photographs of 936 different fields of the sky above declination -33° yielding a total of 1872 photographs. Limiting magnitude for red-sensitive photographs: 20.0. Limiting magnitude for blue-sensitive photographs: 21.1.
