Biographical/Historical

Background: Caltech Director of Secondary School Relations and Special Student Programs, 1971-1990.
Biographical/Historical Description: Lee F. Browne was born and raised in North Carolina, and educated in schools in West Virginia, including West Virginia State College (BS, 1944) and at Syracuse University (MS, 1960). After moving to Pasadena he taught chemistry at Muir and Blair High Schools for many years. He was recruited to Caltech in 1971 to assist in identifying and bring local students, including minorities, to Caltech. He retired in 1990.
Biographical/Historical Collection Notes: Oral History 1999. A 44-page account, with interviewer Shirley K. Cohen, covering Browne's early life and education, but concentrating primarily on his work at Caltech to bring in minority students and students from the Pasadena community in general.
