Background: Caltech Professor of Geophysics and Geology, 1955-1990 (Emeritus 1990- ); Acting Chairman, Division of Geology, 1967-1968; Interim Director, Seismological Laboratory, 1965-1967; Caltech alumnus (MS, 1951; PhD, 1954).
Biographical/Historical Collection Notes: Oral History 1994. A 53-page personal history with David Valone which covers youth and education in Southern California; graduate study of San Andreas Fault; combined interest in field geology, seismology and geophysics.
