Description: Zechmeister was widely known for his research in many areas of chemistry, among which were methods of chromatography and spectroscopy, and studies of polysaccharides, natural pigments, naturally occurring fluorescent compounds, and stereochemical phenomena. For many years he had a wide influence on international science through his founding and editing of Progress in the Chemistry of Organic Natural Products.
