Biographical/Historical

Background: Caltech Professor of Physiology, 1940-1974; Instructor, 1934-40; Research Assistant, 1934-1935.
Biographical/Historical Description: Van Harreveld's chief research interest was mammilian physiology, including the untrastructure of nervous tissue, the effects of chemicals on the nervous system, the effects of acute and chronic oxygen devation on nervous functions and the creation of memory traces in the brain. In addition to this work at Caltech, he served as consultant in psychiatry at Los Angeles County General Hospital.
Biographical/Historical Collection Notes: Papers, 1925-1986. His papers include laboratory notebooks, correspondence, lectures, photographs, scientific equipment and reprints.
