Biographical/Historical

Background: Caltech Professor of Chemical Physics, 1963-2010; Emeritus 2010-.
Biographical/Historical Description: Born in 1926 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Kuppermann spent his early years in New York City and Sao Paulo. He was received his M.Sc. from the University of Sao Paulo in 1948, earned his PhD from Notre Dame in 1956, and came to Caltech's Chemistry Division in 1963. His specialty was chemical physics, and as a leader in computational chemistry he was best known for his quantum-mechanical studies of the dynamics of chemical reactions.
