Biographical/Historical

Background: Caltech Professor of Business Economics, 1929-1969.
Biographical/Historical Description: Brought to Caltech from Harvard by Robert Millikan, Gilbert was given the mission "to give a course which would help the graduates of Caltech who were going into industry to know something about it." In addition to bridging the gap between engineering and business in his teaching, Gilbert was also in demand as an advisor to the government serving as the principal production supervisor for the US Air Force during WWII and afterwards as a consultant and economic advisor.
Biographical/Historical Collection Notes: Oral history, 1978. This 105 page oral history is comprised of four interviews and covers many facets of Gilbert's life including his family background, teaching, war-related work and extensive travel to foreign countries.

Papers, 1927-1987. These papers include correspondence with people at Caltech, professional colleagues, persons in government. There is also material highlighting his role as advisor to the military. Manuscripts, reprints, biographical material and course notes complete the collection.
